MakiMode is a focus tool: a small desk device, plus apps for Mac and iPhone (and an optional browser extension) that block distracting apps and websites while you focus. We collect as little as possible — essentially just enough to give you an account that syncs across your devices. Here's exactly what happens.
What we collect
Your email address. When you create an account (with email & password, or with "Sign in with Google"), we store your email so you can sign in and so your focus syncs across your Mac, iPhone and the device. That's the only personal detail we keep, and it's used solely to run the service — never for advertising or tracking.
Your settings & focus state. Which sites/apps you choose to block, your display settings (theme, brightness), your focus goal and streak, and whether focus is currently on. This is stored against your account so all your devices stay in sync.
A push notification token (iPhone). So the app can be woken to apply blocking when you start focus, we store your device's Apple push token. It can't identify you and is used only to deliver these silent notifications.
What stays on your device
On iPhone, the specific apps you pick to block are chosen through Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls). Apple keeps those selections on your device as opaque tokens — they are never sent to us, and we cannot see which apps you've chosen.
Who processes your data
Supabase — our backend (authentication + database) hosts your account, settings and focus state on our behalf.
Apple Push Notification service — delivers the silent notifications that trigger blocking.
Google — if you choose "Sign in with Google," Google handles that sign-in. The apps also fetch site icons from Google's public favicon service, which receives only a blocked site's domain name.
We do not sell or share your data with anyone else, and we never use it for advertising.
What we don't do
No analytics, tracking, advertising, or fingerprinting.
No collection of your browsing history. Blocking only checks whether the current page or app matches your own list — it doesn't record or transmit what you visit.
We never sell or share your personal data.
Your choices & deletion
You can sign out at any time. To delete your account and everything associated with it (your email, settings and tokens), email us at privacy@makimode.com and we'll remove it.
